At last the M3 season starts. The weather was fantastic and the turf city ground never looked better. Almost everyone was on the ground at time and the day started by the distribution of new Marina team clothes (used by m2 and m3).
Team: Akki (captain), Shantanu, Arun, Amit Pathak, Vivek Chopra, Amit Bansal, Raj, Mani Bhat, Rishab, Sridhar, Ritesh Mohit.
The top order needs to take more responsibility. In my experience top 4 batsmen should not be playing cross batted swats and getting caught at midwicket. More importantly, having made 15-20 there's no excuse for getting out. The batters' mindset needs to change a little such that if you've played yourself in, you then accumulate as much as you can. There's no need to start slogging when you're at 20 - there's lots of time left - you can do that when you're at 40 or 50. My point is don't short sell your wicket. We just need to set ourselves higher standard boys.
I like the fact that in the bowling analysis the number of wides are put first. I guess that shows the team is already thinking about it. 23 wides as I count- thats almost 4 overs more to opponent. This first match will be a wake up call for all of us.
Good report Mohit .... this script and your fine bowling in the game is a great way to start/welcome you to the Marina community.
Just a couple of points to add on to your report: We need to have 1 or 2 good partnership at the top of the order and this could ensure we end up with a big score. Admittedly the heat took a toll on us and the energies were sapped ..... but many of the guys on the field weren't cheering, talking and encouraging the team on the ground right from the beginning. Please ensure your vocally heard on the field right thru the 30 overs even if your throats are parched.
Anshul - Just to clarify, NONE of the batsmen slogged/played crossed batted shots to get out. They were out to unforced errots against a decent bowling attack. Your point on the top order needing to put a price on their wicket and putting their head down and building an innings is absolutely valid.
Just a few more cents of information and possible improvements:
- Fielders: Please dont move around based on the previous shot. This will make life more difficult for the captain and the bowlers. There is only one captain on the field. If you wish to try something on the field/bowling, please talk to the captain.Everyone shouldn't be allowed to change the field. It will only create confusion. Maintain calm when you are on the field. Agitation on the field only causes mistakes and cause lack of focus. It sets a bad example among team and on the opposition. - I feel the agressive intent of the batsmen started a bit too soon. We should have waited a couple of overs before going all out. 24-25th over would have been ideal. - I feel that the fitness level of the players need a lot of improvement. We can't expect to be tired after 15 overs under any circumstances.
Overall, I feel it was good workout for all of us and reminds us of our deficiencies and mistakes. Lets work on those and come back strong in the coming games.
one wrong shot by Rishabh and he got caught out on midwicket. Arun went one down and scored first boundry of the game, extras were coming continuously, score was moving. Aruns scored 19 runs but one cross batted shot and catch to point fielder.
